Only decades have passed, and it is the “age of abundance.” Abundance is not just an abundance, but an excess of excess. It is said that nearly half of the clothes are not worn even after buying them. As a result, the amount of greenhouse gases generated by burning clothes is greater than the total amount of greenhouse gases emitted by ships and aviation industries around the world. Making a pair of jeans requires 7,000 liters of water and emits 33 kilograms of carbon dioxide. Wastewater generated by the clothing industry accounts for 20% of the total industrial wastewater. This summation of environmental destruction is what caused today’s severe climate crisis. I miss that childhood when I adapted to nature and was nature itself.
It’s been very hot this summer, but I’ve never lived without the air conditioner on. I didn’t use much fans either. It was a thought to endure as much as possible in the future, as it is clear that a more severe heat wave will come. As is well known, electricity generation is one of the most carbon dioxide-producing areas. There is no electric rice cooker and microwave at home. Of course, there is no air purifier. I try to refrain from eating meat as much as I can. When I was young, I really enjoyed meat during holidays and ritual foods, but factory-style breeding and excessive livestock are one of the pillars of the climate crisis.
I don’t have a driver’s license and of course I don’t have a car. Walk for about 30 minutes and walk for about an hour if it’s not a heat wave or freezing cold. The Internet we use on a daily basis also generates considerable carbon. I don’t have a smartphone and I don’t know anything like Netflix. I rarely watch YouTube either. Socks and underwear are used when bent. I don’t intend to buy clothes in the future. I don’t use any disposable products, including wipes. There is no courier or delivery at all. Like that, I try not to let the garbage itself come out completely.
I am happy to live in the beautiful order of nature.
In fact, until now, we have all lived with the undue destruction of this global environment without exception. Therefore, it is a natural and basic duty that we all have to think about the environment, conserve resources, and minimize pollution in our position now.
The great thinker Rousseau emphasized that there is a beautiful order in nature, and that living in it is correct and happy. Of course, it will be difficult to return to nature fully by returning to our lives now. But we, living in today’s climate crisis, or climate disaster, should not lose sight of Rousseau’s spirit of “Go back to nature!” I believe it will never be impossible to overcome this serious climate crisis if more people are in that spirit.
